Join us on Friday 7th of November for this semester’s unforgettable trip to Edinburgh! We’ll take a closer look at the contemporary Scottish art scene, and will in particular examine the works of Robin Gillanders and Jacqueline Donachie.
10:00am: Leave St Andrews. We will meet outside St Salvator's Quad.
11:30am: Guided tour of Stills Gallery and their current exhibition ‘Robin Gillanders: A Retrospective’. The display will showcase newly commissioned work alongside selected portraits made over the last forty years. It will feature photographs from various collaborations between Gillanders and the artist Ian Hamilton Finley. This will include, on display for the first time, a series made at Little Sparta, his home in the Pentland Hills.
1:45pm: Guided tour of Fruitmarket Gallery’s new exhibition ‘Jacqueline Donachie: Right Here Among Them’. Donachie presents a major mid-career exhibition of sculpture, installation, photography, film and drawings, all rooted in an exploration of the individual, family and collective identity. Her work concentrates on the structures, platforms and spaces (both actual and conceptual, through which we construct ourselves in the world. For this exhibition in particular, she has made a series of new sculptures and installations, which are shown in the context of two significant existing works, each specifically reconfigured and re-presented at the Fruitmarket Gallery.
3:15 pm: Return to St. Andrews. We’ll be back in the bubble around 4:45 pm.
Sounds pretty good, right? Tickets cost £13 – don’t miss out!
They will be on sale Tuesday the 14th from 1-6pm at Rector’s Café.
